Obituary of Mercedes A. Correia Morais

Mercedes Antunes Correia Morais, 90, of Parada, Carregal do Sal, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on October 21, 2022. Mercedes, known to many as Mercedinhas, is survived by her sons Joe Morais alongside Wiola and his son Joshua and Paulo Morais alongside Cristiana and their children, Isabel and Marco. She was born in Parada, Carregal do Sal, and later met her husband of 54 years, Eduardo. In 1966, they immigrated to the United States and started their lives in the Bronx where both of her children were born. Mercedes was known for her pleasant disposition and her passion of reading. Everyone knew that if you gave her a book or handed her anything to read, she would not rest until she had read every single word cover to cover. She loved cooking but most of all she loved her family. Her sons meant the world to her and her grandchildren were her shining light. She was beloved by many and will be sorely missed. We look back at her beautiful life and are left with many happy memories to cherish. The viewing will be held on Monday, October 24th between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at August F. Schmidt Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Avenue, Elizabeth, NJ 07208. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Tuesday, October 25th at 11:30 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 S. Springfield Avenue, Springfield, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, 53 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ.
