Obituary of Marie Carvalho

Mary Carvalho, 90, of Holmdel died Tuesday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Relatives & Friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Friday, June 10 from the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth at 9:15 Am. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Elizabeth at 10:00 AM. Entombment St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting Thursday 3-8 PM. Mary was born October 18, 1931 to Antonio Marques De Oliveira & Albertina Moreira De Oliveira in Valongo, Portugal. She Immigrated to USA in 1933 in Philadelphia, PA. The family shortly after moved & settled in Elizabeth in 1935. She entered into the public school system in Elizabeth and graduated Batton High School in 1949. Subsequently attend & graduated from Drake Business school in 1950. Mary started her employment career at the Singer Company in Elizabeth where she honed her secretary skills. A few years later she took on a managerial position with the Al Correia Agency/Speedway Travel, Elizabeth in 1955 & remained employed there & eventually became IFS owner & Operator till the present date. Mary became a licensed realtor in 1974 & attained her New Jersey Brokers Realtor License in 1991. Always a Proud Portuguese-American Mary was very involved in her Portuguese Community from a young age. She was active in the Elizabeth Portuguese Youth & the Portuguese Instructive Social club, (P.I.S.C.), & was cheer leader from the Elizabeth Portuguese Basketball team in 1948-1949 where she met her future husband of 70 years, Amadeu L. Carvalho. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Elizabeth. Over the years Mary involved herself in helping many Portuguese Immigrants gain their residency & USA Citizenship. Her heart & her door were always open to assist anyone who needed her help & advice. Mary is predeceased by her husband Amadeu L. Carvelho. She is survived by 2 sons, Ronald J. Carvalho & his wife Patricia of Ocean Township & Gary A. Carvelho & his wife Maria Helena of Holmdel. 2 Granddaughters Maria Rosa Carvalho & Carolina Albertina Carvalho.
