Augusto Tavares Ribeiro, age 94, of Union died on Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway after a short illness. Augusto was born in Elizabeth and raised in Portugal until age of 19. He was the oldest living member of Portuguese Instructive Social Club, Elizabeth and was very active in his youth. He worked at Singer, then United Airlines before retiring in 1985. Visiting Friday 4-8 PM at August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth. Interment Portugal.
Augusto was predeceased by his wife Maria de Lourdes Rodrigues de Oliveira Ribeiro of Papizios, Portugal. He is survived by his son Alexandre T. Ribeiro & daughter Maria Pata & her husband Manuel. Grandfather of Manuel Paulo Pata, & his wife Charlene, Elizabete Pata & her husband Chris Wainman & Daniel Pata. 2 Great Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105-1905.
