Obituary of Albina M. Costa

Albina M. Costa, 72, of Elizabeth, passed away on Monday at Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City. She was born in Cativelos, a small town in the Serra da Estrela region of Portugal, to Jose Luis Abito and Floripes Ferreira Morais. While growing up in Portugal, she worked in the family shoe business. She moved to the United States in 1977, at the age of 28, settling with her parents, her older sister and her family, in Harrison. In 1980, she met her husband, Abilio, while on summer vacation in Portugal. They married in September of 1982 and had a daughter, Monica, in July of 1983. She lived in Newark for over 20 years until moving to Elizabeth in 1997. Albina was proud to have become an American Citizen at the age of 53. She was employed as a seamstress in the Essex County area for over 25 years until retiring in 2005. After retiring, she enjoyed spending her summer vacations back home in Portugal. Albina is survived by her husband of 39 years Abilio M. Costa. Her daughter, Monica Hulse and her husband Mark Hulse of Green Brook, and her only grandchild, Malayna Hulse, whom she loved very dearly. She is also survived by her two sisters Maria do Carmo Couto of Kearny and Maria Alice Cunha of Viseu, Portugal. Friends and family are kindly invited to attend the visitation services on Thursday, March 10, from 5-8 PM and the funeral services on Friday, March 11, from 10-11 AM at August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home,139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth. Funeral procession to follow for entombment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
