CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF MRS. MARIETTA M. BURKE (nee Mueller) April 5th, 1930 — March 3rd, 2022 Born in Elizabeth, N.J. in 1930 to the late Marguerite F. Mueller (nee French) and Carl F. Mueller. She was married to her husband of 58 years, John (“Jack”) E. Burke, Sr, until his death in 2012, before leaving Elizabeth and moving to Union, N.J. in 2014. Marietta died on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 in Summit, N.J. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service and /or viewing visitation at the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth, on Tuesday, March 8th, for an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service followed by Interment in Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E Broad St, Westfield, N.J. Friends may call on Tuesday morning, March 8th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., prior to the funeral service. Marietta was a life long member of Second Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth where she was a member of the choir and Deacon Board Treasurer. She was a graduate of Elizabeth’s Battin High School, and following high school attended Berkeley Business School and the Barbizon Model Agency. She was a Secretary at the Standard Oil Company of N.J. corporate office headquarter’s in Elizabeth, was Secretary at Elmora Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, was an office Secretary in the Conlon Law Firm in Union, and was Office Manager & Board of Directors member at the Elizabeth Home For Aged Women. Marietta was a member of the national Daughters of the American Revolution(DAR), was a local Democrat Party Neighborhood Committee Person in Elizabeth, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, was active in local school Parent Teacher Associations(PTAs), was a member of the Elizabeth Boy Scout Troop 6 Parent’s Auxiliary, and was a member of the Colonia Swim Club’s Synchronized Swimming group. Marietta was a committed Bridge Player and Tennis Player, playing both well into her senior years …and, she was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Burke, in 1987, and her husband “Jack”, in 2012. Marietta is survived by two sons, John, Jr. and his wife, Joanne, of Elizabeth, and Peter of West Cape May, N.J.; a sister, Nancy of Elizabeth; a sister, Carla of Union, N.J.; a brother, Fred of Cooperstown, N.Y; and also four grandchildren- Owen, Liam, Molly and Casey. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Special Olympics of N.J., 3 Princess Rd., Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648, or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
