Obituary of Manuel Vieira Dias

Manuel Vieira Dias was a beloved husband and father, who passed on January 25th, 2022, In Elizabeth NJ. He was 81 years old. Manuel was a self-made, very hardworking man who was born to his parents João Dias and Lucinda Vieira. He is survived by his wife Marquesa Dias, his daughter Maria Dias, his two grandsons Miguel and Emmanuel Dias and his great grandson Noah Dias. He is also survived by his three siblings Marquesa, Jose, and Maria Aurora. Manuel was born on May 17th, 1940, in Paçô Oriz Santa Marinha, Vila Verde, Braga, Portugal. Where he lived until his early adulthood. He enlisted with the Portuguese Army at the age of 20, where eventually he became a chef. Manuel was known for his great cooking and delicious meals he would create. He moved to America when he was 28 years old in early 1969. Manuel loved America and all that he was able to accomplish there. He was a jack of all trades. Manuel was well known for being skilled in carpentry and plumbing, which was very useful for his real estate properties that he purchased over time. He was very extroverted and loved to talk to those around him. He would often say he was "c?o do sorte" which translates to "dog of luck" because he always somehow knew exactly what to do, where to go and who to speak to. He was also able to pick out winning lottery numbers. Manuel had light green eyes and was nicknamed "cat eyes" by his family. He was known for his outspoken and extroverted nature. He loved to make his own wine and spend time with his grandchildren and great grandson. Manuel passed of sudden heart attack in the late afternoon of Tuesday January 25th, 2022. A memorial Service will be held on February 28th, 2022, at 6 pm at August F Schmidt Memorial Home located at 139 Westfield Avenue, Elizabeth NJ 07208. A mass will be held on March 1st, 2022, at 9 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, located at 403 Spring Street, Elizabeth NJ 07201.
